Rotary Club of Madison- After Hours

IMAGINE ROTARY

Hi team!

I’m coming to you this week from PETS (President-Elect Training Session) in Itasca, IL. This is my second time to attend PETS, but my first as an Assistant Governor. I am especially excited to hear Jennifer Jones, Rotary International’s first woman President, speak this evening. Each RI President chooses a theme for his/her year, and Jennifer’s theme is Imagine Rotary. As she told our incoming governors in a speech on January 20, “Imagine, a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.” That is truly the essence of Rotary. Maybe you feel like you’re just one small person, or you don’t have powerful connections, or a lot of money, or any number of perceived roadblocks. What Rotary does is give you all the tools, connections, and money you need to make lasting changes in your world, whether close to home or across an ocean. But you also have to be willing to meet that opportunity with your own time and dedication. We can imagine making a difference all day long. We then must act to turn those dreams- of peace, clean water, education for all- into reality.

I will be sending out a link to a survey (open until the end of the month) that I encourage all of our club members to complete. The most pressing issue is to approve or deny the motion to add a minimum participation requirement to our club’s membership. There is also space for you to share what you imagine for yourself and for our club. What changes would you like our club to make in the world- and what are you willing to do to help us get there?

Yours truly,
Erin Luken
Past-President, Group 8 AG
