News & Updates, March 29th, 2017
Hello fellow Rotarians and friends of Madison After Hours,

Although the calendar declares spring has sprung I'll believe it when we have temperatures above 50 degrees for a full week!

Registration for "Rock the River" is currently available on EventBrite!  This will be a great evening of entertainment and education to bring awareness to hunger and homelessness in the Madison community.  Details about this and other YPWeek events are available on our website and Facebook page.  YPWeek kicks off the week of April 22-29th.

Until then, join us this Sunday evening at The Breakwater for our meeting featuring local Alder, Sara Eskrich to learn what it means to serve her district and how we all can become more involved in our communities .  Please see below for additional information.

Best regards,
Jill
President 2016-2017

Sunday, April 2 – Meeting, Sara Eskrich, Alder

This week we have the pleasure of hearing from Sara Eskrich, Alder for District 13 (the near-west and near-south side) in Madison.  As an Alder, Sara has her finger on the pulse of local/neighborhood politics, issues, and planning.  Sara serves on a host of committees including the Finance Committee and Community Development Authority. On Sunday, April 4th Sara will talk to us about what it means to serve as Alder, the top issues facing our city/community, and how individuals like us can get involved in our own neighborhoods and city!

Thursday, April 27 – YPWeek:  Rock the River

Join us on April 27th when we "Rock the River" at the River Food Pantry! This will be a great evening of entertainment and education to bring awareness to hunger and homelessness in the Madison community. You will learn what can be done to help in our community with the significant challenges of hunger and homelessness. The cost to attend is $10, or $5 if you bring three non-perishable food items to donate.

Saturday, April 29 – Service Event:  FixIT Clinic

Everyone On Madison is a DANEnet project to help low-income households get affordable internet access, computers and the skills to use both. Our volunteers will provide very basic computer troubleshooting experience to people that bring in their PCs and laptops.  That might include running anti-virus or disk cleanup software, or showing someone how to store files in the cloud. Please volunteer through their website: http://everyoneonmadison.org/#core-volunteer

Quarterly Book Club:  Evicted

Our club has selected Evicted as our quarterly book for discussion, based on Christina's poll and recommendation.

The 2016 UW Go Big Read selection, Evicted is the true story of eight Milwaukee families faced with losing their homes.

Everyone is invited to join us in reading and future discussion!
