Newsletter January 5, 2020
Hello fellow Rotarians,

Welcome to 2020! I hope everyone’s new year is off to a smooth start. I don’t know about you, but for me, there’s just something about January and starting fresh that is inspiring for all the opportunities that lie ahead. I’m not really one for resolutions, but I do like to set goals and map out plans to achieve them. A big goal that I have for our club is to define our signature project(s), both local and abroad. Building up to that, we had many Rotary-centric speakers in 2019 in order to help inspire us and get us thinking about where we want to make a difference and how we might go about that. I invite everyone to consider joining our new steering committee and get involved in determining our new projects. I promise we’ll do as much as possible over email and limit in-person meetings to only when needed. We all have busy lives and commitments, and I appreciate that our members manage to not only fit in, but also prioritize, our Rotary Club and projects.

A big congratulations and thanks to all of our members who donated during our Rotary Foundation drive in December! Collectively, we donated $2475. We surpassed our $1000 match by $100, and had another $375 in employer-matched giving. Also, six of our members will be getting Paul Harris awards! I’m blown away by your generosity. Thank you also to our anonymous members who provided the idea, the points matching, and the dollar matching.

See you on Sunday,

Erin Luken
2019-2020 President

The Post at the Park Hotel, 22 S Carroll Street, Madison, 6:30- 8:00 pm
Social at 6:30 pm in The Post bar, then meeting to follow at 7 pm downstairs. Asset Builders of America is a non-profit organization that has been teaching financial capability and economic empowerment to low and moderate income youth and families since 1999. Founders Richard Entenmann and Robert Wynn were both working in financial investor protection—Entenmann with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Wynn with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions. They both saw the damage that lack of wealth and financial illiteracy were creating for millions of Americans and together, they founded Asset Builders. Their goal was simple—to proactively educate and prepare individuals to avoid financial pitfalls and predatory practices, as well to show a better way to create personal wealth and economic stability.
